About This Place

Nestled in the bustling heart of Los Angeles’ Chinatown, Katsu Sando offers a tantalizing taste of Japan’s beloved comfort food with a creative twist. Specializing in Japanese sandwiches, tonkatsu, and a variety of uniquely crafted sandos, this vibrant spot at 736 N Broadway #105 is a must-visit for anyone craving bold, satisfying flavors wrapped in perfectly pressed bread.

From the moment you bite into their signature Pork Katsu Sando, you’re met with the irresistible crunch of golden, panko-crusted pork cutlet layered with crisp cabbage and just the right amount of savory sauce, all hugged by fluffy, lightly toasted bread. If seafood delights are more your style, the Shrimp Katsu Sandwich delivers a luscious combination of tender shrimp with a delicate, sweet walnut glaze that dances on your palate. Not to be missed is the Honey Walnut Shrimp Sando, a harmonious marriage of rich textures and subtle sweetness that makes each mouthful sing.

Vegetarian diners will appreciate the Mushroom Katsu Sando, where a whole fried portobello mushroom takes center stage, offering a meaty and satisfying bite that’s richly seasoned and perfectly crispy. Meanwhile, the Menchi Katsu Sando and Menchi Cheeseburger provide heartier options bursting with juicy flavor and indulgent melted cheese.

Aside from the outstanding sandwiches, Katsu Sando’s menu of sides elevates any meal. Their Curry Cheese Fries are a decadent treat—crispy waffle fries drenched in a luscious curry sauce and melted cheese that’s impossible to resist. For something lighter yet still deeply satisfying, the Potato Salad and Wafu Slaw add refreshing, tangy contrasts. Loved for their bold flavor combinations, the Curry Dip and its spicy counterpart add an addictive kick to the fries or tater tots, while housemade pickles like Jangachi and Kimchi provide a perfect acidic counterbalance.

The beverage selection complements this feast with thoughtful nods to authentic East Asian flavors—from the effervescent Choya Yuzu Soda and classic Japanese Ramune to comforting cups of unsweetened green tea and coffee, ensuring every sip balances the richness of the food.

The dining atmosphere at Katsu Sando Chinatown, while modest and casual, vibrates with an undeniable energy fueled by passionate food lovers and a genuine appreciation for quality. Customer reviews consistently praise not only the incredible taste but also the freshness and care evident in every dish. Darrell Aming raves about the juicy, delicious sandos that "definitely didn’t disappoint" his lunch craving, while Ashleigh describes her shrimp sando as "soooo good," appreciating how "the whole sandwich was constructed nicely and didn’t fall apart." Michael Harrold’s vivid memory of a “huge” pork and cheese sando, bursting with generous cheese and paired with a comforting side of curry dip, perfectly captures the indulgent, memorable experience Katsu Sando offers.

Listen Family if you’re ever in LA, Chinatown to be exact, come check them out . I Ordered the Original with the waffle fries & the kimchi brown butter Sandos. This was my first time here with my sister & it definitely didn’t disappoint my lunch craving. The sandos they make here are delicious & juicy. So do yourself & your taste buds a favor and come get a Sando or Katsu plates.

This is straight food review based on having this delivered from Caviar/Doordash! I can't fairly rate the atmosphere and service here on Google. Even with an average wait of about ~45 minutes from order placement to delivery, the food was still warm and fresh feeling! I scarfed down the mushroom katsu sando, and their whole crispy and lightly fried portobello mushroom is meaty and satisfying. It really was quite a filling meal-sized sandwich on its own and the frisee, yuzu-kosho slaw, katsu sauce, and true star of the show: the honey milk bread made it a sandwich worthy of reviewing. I can't wait to go back and try the chicken katsu sando. I had some green tea to drink and the addictive wagyu curry cheese fries. The kewpie mayo and aonori elevate the seasoned fries. Their house sauce was addictive and I spread it on my sandwich and fries. It's spicy and deliciously subtly sweet, and they use gochujang, mayo, and citrus. I'll be back to scope out this place in person!

Holy wow this place was DELICIOUS! I got the shrimp sando and my friend got the chicken sando (he had never heard of or had a sandwich like that before and still talks about to this day). The shrimp sando was soooo good! Perfectly worked with walnuts and a light sweet glaze. The whole sandwich was constructed nicely and didn’t fall apart. We got cheese waffle fries and curry to share, omg it was so good. The spicy dipping sauce they give is so very nice! 10/10 experience. We ate standing with was nice because we work in an office, the ambiance in the location was really nice, it’s small and you will miss it if you are paying attention. Free parking in that area in general at certain times of the day is awful so be prepared to pay for it. I’ll definitely be back when I’m in the area.

I AM TELLING YOU, Katsu Sando is undeniably so freaking good. Regardless of the location, the food is done so well and the service is always so quick as well. I fell in love with the San Gabriel location and after talking to one of the members of the owning family, I followed their IG and saw that they were opening one in Chinatown. Lots of respect to opening their second location in a dying neighborhood. It’s great to see business trying to revive Chinatown. The food came out so hot and was delicious. I could tell they used better quality eggs as the egg yolk was a darker orange color. Tater tots were fried to a perfect crisp. Will be coming back soon.

I saw they were hosting a pick up only special pork and cheese sando and I had already been planning a visit so the stars aligned. The sandwich was huge! And very tasty. The cheese was generous and was spilling over. Easily the messiest (in a good way) sandwich I ever ate in my car. I'll need to get a tray to stash in my car for meals like this. To go with the sandwich I had a side of curry dip. It was addictive but also was a big reason why this was a messy meal. I also tried the chicken sando. Very tasty. Everything was fresh, very filling and very tasty.
